Manufacturing Upgraded 9: Investing in the Right Safety Gear
No matter how strict preventive measures are or how solid a company’s safety policies, accidents can always happen. Therefore, it’s worth investing in the kind of safety gear that is as effective as it is comfortable. Find out more about such gear and other safety matters in this post. But first, let’s talk about the future of workplace communications.
Keeping your workplace connected
Not everyone is in the office every day anymore. More and more people, where possible, occasionally work from home or even work remotely full-time. This can create communication issues if the workplace doesn’t evolve along with these trends. E-mails don’t get replied immediately, we’ve all been in conference calls with connection issues, and non-desk workers aren’t able to check their messages all the time. Where’s the solution? Flavio Pfaffhauser talks about communication platforms which function a bit like social media platforms, with feeds and targeted content. However, it’s important never to lose the human touch. Protect your fleet
Sleepy drivers are a danger to themselves and everyone around them, yet many report having driven while tired. How do you ensure that your company’s drivers – whatever vehicle they’re driving – aren’t among them? Jennifer Busick tells us to first recognize the signs of fatigue, and create awareness: if your eyes are getting heavy, if you’re missing signs or lights, pull over! If there’s no one to replace the driver, a short nap might help. Make sure that your employees are trained in fatigue specifically, and are following the safety guidelines in terms of taking adequate breaks. Safety over speed, always! Invest in the right apparel
In the electrical industry, arc flashes are a hazard to be reckoned with and a top safety priority. However, not all accidents can be prevented, which is why Scott Francis recommends to invest in AR (arc rated)/ FR (flame resistant) apparel for daily use. We don’t ever want it to be necessary, but if it ever becomes necessary, it makes the difference between debilitating burns and a light injury. Everyday safety apparel saves time as the employees don’t have to change when switching tasks and new employees don’t need to be trained in those specifics anymore either. There are many more benefits, so head on to EHS Today to find out about them.
