Inside the Future Is WOW: Key EHSQ Takeaways for 2024

18 · 10 · 2024 by Claire Styles

Once again, we gathered for The Future Is WOW—and what better place to network with EHSQ professionals over a beer than the historic De Koninck Brewery in Antwerp? With expert-led sessions and hands-on product demos, we explored everything from AI applications in EHSQ to sustainability goals, zero-harm strategies, and the launch of our new Compliance Calendar. Ready for the highlights?

An AI (r)evolution

Jan Van den Nieuwenhof, the CEO of TenForce stands at the front of a room presenting beside a large TV screen.

A key theme in Jan’s session was the role AI will play in EHSQ software and high-risk industries. We often talk about the AI revolution. Instead, Jan presented the AI evolution. He shared the story of Proximus, which adopted TenForce’s mobile app over a decade ago to improve worksite inspections. With the arrival of 4G and 5G, subcontractors could send photos of worksites, eliminating the need for inspectors to visit in person.

Now, AI analyzes these images for safety risks, a seamless progression that shows how AI can support EHSQ processes naturally. As you’ll see, this “human in command” approach to AI is a common thread throughout the sessions this year.

How to use digital self-paced learning to train your employees and contractors

Christophe Jacobs from FLOWSPARKS stands at the front of a meeting room, presenting beside a large TV screen.

Christophe Jacobs from FLOWSPARKS showcased how the integration between FLOWSPARKS and TenForce makes it easy to deliver digital, self-paced learning to employees, contractors, and visitors.

With ready-made templates, an AI co-author, and automated translations, FLOWSPARKS lets you quickly build interactive, bite-sized courses. Whether it’s a short 15-minute video with a simple test or a more interactive, hands-on training session, you never have to start from scratch creating content that suits your team’s needs

On the TenForce side, scheduling, reminders, and progress tracking are automated, making sure no one misses a deadline or certification. This gives you peace of mind that only trained and qualified individuals can access your facility.

AI vision for EHSQ and operational risk management

Uros Milosevic from TenForce stands at the front of a meeting room, presenting beside a large TV screen.

Uros gave attendees a glimpse into the future of TenForce, focusing on AI-powered tools that are designed to be useful rather than merely performative, and importantly, that keep humans in the driving seat.

He took us on a whistle-stop tour of technology through the agricultural, industrial, and informational age—an evolution that is accelerating. With so many new ideas, Uros reminded us that it’s important to choose wisely and use AI responsibly. That means keeping humans in command—deciding when to use AI and always being able to oversee its actions.

Uros introduced some exciting new add-ons that are being developed in the TenForce lab. For instance, in Permit to Work, an AI tool will support the “four eyes” principle during the risk assessment phase, suggesting additional hazards based on job type and location, along with potential controls. These suggestions can then be added to the risk registry, improving safety as you go.

Regulatory intelligence: how to master it with TenForce and Enhesa

Michiel Scholberg from Enhesa stands at the front of a meeting room, presenting beside a large TV screen.

Michiel from Enhesa and Evelyn from TenForce highlighted how the new Compliance Calendar integrates Enhesa’s regulatory intelligence into TenForce. This gives users instant access to global regulations, making it easy to launch and track compliance tasks specific to their needs.

Michiel spotlighted the rising challenges for EHS managers: regulations are up 35% since 2019 and auditors no longer want to see just spreadsheets—they expect proof that you fully understand and meet every regulation.

With the Compliance Calendar, relevant regulatory data from Enhesa flows directly into TenForce, automatically generating tasks like audits, sampling, and reporting. As tasks get completed, the system either reschedules them to keep compliance on track or, if something’s off, instantly flags it for corrective action.

With no more manual tracking or missed deadlines, it’s a proactive way to ensure you’re ready for any audit and ahead of the compliance curve.

Turning sustainability and ESG goals into action

Bastiaan Debliek and Minna Kroger stand in conversation with a TV screen displaying The Future Is WOW behind them.

Our CCO, Bastiaan, teamed up with Elisa’s Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Minna Kröger, for an engaging discussion on ESG and sustainability. Here are the key takeaways:

  • Aim for ambitious goals: Elisa is targeting net zero by 2040, with strategies focused on optimizing energy use and reducing Scope 3 emissions by collaborating with suppliers.
  • Use ESG data effectively: ESG data shouldn’t just be for regulatory compliance. It should drive key business decisions and shape long-term sustainability strategies.
  • Motivate through transparency: When employees have access to clear, actionable data on sustainability performance, it motivates them to improve.
  • Balance costs with long-term benefits: Sustainability initiatives may seem costly upfront, but the long-term gains in reputation, customer trust, and competitive edge make the investment worthwhile.
  • Make sustainability part of the culture: Embedding ESG principles into everyday business places sustainability at the core of a company’s identity and operations.

Taking quality management from compliance to competitive edge

Tobias and Bram present a demo of the Quality Management suite.

Tobias and Bram led a hands-on demo that showed how managing quality doesn’t have to be just about compliance—it can give you a competitive edge. They tackled common challenges like scattered documentation and limited visibility into corrective actions, which make it difficult to stay compliant.

Their demo covered the full range of tools in the suite—from Audits and Inspections and CAPA to Management of Change (MoC), Incident Management, and Complaint Handling—highlighting how TenForce centralizes your quality metrics so you can spot and address risks before they snowball into costly issues.

Curious to see the demo? You’ll find it in our on-demand webinar.

How unified EHS software supports safety performance at Unilin

Geoffrey Breyne stands at the front of a meeting room, presenting with a TV screen beside him.

Geoffrey Breyne shared Unilin’s journey toward zero-harm. He explained how TenForce supported Unilin’s zero-harm goals through modules like incident management, permit to work, and safety observations. By integrating safety into daily operations, Unilin has helped employees detect and report risks promptly, driving a safer and more positive work environment.

Geoffrey’s session highlighted how a zero-harm policy isn’t just about avoiding accidents—it’s about building a culture of care and continuous improvement. Interested in learning more? Find out how to build a zero-harm policy and learn from Unilin’s approach.
